Major US Tech Firm are Delaying Their Return to Work Dates

The term “google return to office” has become a popular search phrase around many office goers. This is because Giant US tech firm like Lyft, Google, and Meta have all pushed for mandatory-office work time. However, the new Omicron further threw a wrench within these plans and the Tech Giants have started a tug of war with their employees.

Before, all these companies have stated for a mandatory office return by January 10th. However, Facebook’s parent company Meta says that offices will open by January however employees can opt to fully begin office after 3 to 5 months. Lyft, on the other hand, has stated that their workers can go for either home or office for the entirety of 2022.

All these goal post-movement has caused employees to speak their minds. Many have stated their frustration and confusion about the matter after months of successful work from home. An apple employee stated that he quit his job because of Apple’s mandate to work from the office despite newer virus warnings. He said that Apple CEO Tim Cook has decided to not only unheard such a warning but straight up ignore it.

These stories go even further where top talent is slowly quitting with no intention of coming back. Employees have also stated that they felt worse working from the office and a survey has shown that 37% of all employees clocking in offices have backed the idea.

An illusion Broken

This pandemic has shown that office was not mandatory to be productive and all these companies were siphoning all these talents for fewer returns. Workers have stated that it usually takes between 20 to 30 hours to complete tasks at home as opposed to the 40+ mandatory hours a week in the office. The illusion shattered will have a long-lasting effect despite all these mandatory returns and with companies like Microsoft, Dropbox, Twitter backing these claims, it will be interesting to see how the situation unfolds. So much for “google return to office“.
